Kara Colvin's senior film at Savannah College of Art and Design, Long Live The King, is an adaption of the historic story of Guy Fawkes and the 1605 gunpowder plot. My responsibility was to create a poster and promotional materials for the film including business cards and a DVD cover.

About the Film: Guy Fawkes, infamous English terrorist caught in the midst of the 1605 gunpowder plot to blow up parliament and kill the King, recollects on the events leading up to his capture, the night before his execution. Fawkes finds his recollections preoccupied on the lover he is leaving behind, and the conflict between his earthly devotion to her and his tireless commitment to the principles for which he must die.

Remember, remember the fifth of November
The gunpowder treason and plot.
I know of no reason why the gunpowder treason
Should ever be forgot.

Final Poster measures 27 x 41"

The Metro in Washington DC is the nation’s second-largest heavy rail system, with 5 rail lines (and a sixth one under construction), about 106 miles of track and 86 stations. And that doesn't even include the bus system. Washington DC was officially founded back in 1790 and serves as the United States capital under the Constitution. The city is full of historical landmarks, unique tourist spots, and political buildings. Currently, the Metro system is used primarily by commuters both in DC and around Maryland and Virginia.

In this rebranding and information design project, my goal was to appeal to a new crowd - the visitors of Washington DC. I wanted the map to become much clearer and less cluttered, and brand the Metro so that it no longer looked like the New York City subway system. The map shows how easy it is to get to a variety of landmarks and points of interest throughout the area. Along with a map redesign, new Metro cards were developed as well as signage system.

In a collaborative class sponsored by Walt Disney Imagineering, our team comprised of two graphic designers, a production designer, creative writer, and two industrial designers created a food truck concept to be used for special events. The truck was to be placed on the Odyssey Bridge between World Showcase and Future World and needed to fit the theme of both sides of Epcot. Together, Team Food Truck created a custom food truck design, branding materials, custom tables, chairs, and umbrellas, and queue line interactivity with guests.

The Refueling Station is Wall-E's robot fuel station that he has developed that serves healthy, organic fuel for robots. Unfortunately, while taking a break from working, other robots destroyed and set fire to his business, leaving him with nothing but scraps. With the help of Eva, the two rebuild using the scrap metal and parts from the destruction.

Like Wall-E's home/garage, the food is presented on a rotating display and delivered on a conveyer belt. The menu board is also easily changed for various events such as the Food & Wine Festival and Flower & Garden Festival. While waiting in line, guests can look through viewfinders at various spots around the park and while looking in, they can see Eva flying by or Wall-E cleaning up trash. There is also an open opportunity for an "every day" menu to be developed so that the truck can become more permanent.

Given the task of redesigning the packaging for an existing product, I chose Epson Printer Ink. My goal was to update the look of the Epson Printer cartridge boxes to make them appeal more to the upscale designer and photographer audience that the brand attracts, as well as find a way to make it easier to put used cartridges back into the box and seal it. One major problem I’ve found with Epson Printer Ink boxes, there is no way to reseal or close the box once opened in order to reuse the box to recycle the ink. Many places (Staples being one of them) recycles ink and has an incentive program for customers to bring back old cartridges for money/store credit. I never want to bring back just the cartridge, so I would try and reuse old boxes only to find out there’s no way to close them again without using tape. I wanted to find a new way for the cartridge to sit in the box for recycling, in order to reuse the box once you bought your new cartridge.

Bubble Beasts is a line of hygiene products for kids. Each bottle or container has a unique monster that kids can associate with baths, brushing their teeth, or other hygiene routines to make them a more positive experience. The bright colors and big eyes are meant to attract the attention of both boys and girls under the age of 8. Bubble Beasts products are designed to look attractive enough on a bathroom counter or displayed proudly in a shower both to serve as a reminder for kids and fit in with the aesthetic of a bathroom.

Current hygiene products for kids are so overly decorated with characters kids already associate with their favorite TV and movies. These characters introduce a new set, specifically focused on hygiene and getting clean. The bottles are all small enough for kids to handle and are decorated with copy and product names to make kids laugh when they're old enough to read.

Products: Hair Brush, Hair Gel, Shampoo, Conditioner, Detangling Spray, Hand Soap, Hand Sanitizer, Lotion, Body Wash, Bubble Bath, Mouth Wash, Flossers, Toothpaste.

Amy's Omelette House is a local restaurant from my hometown that has a special place in my heart. They primarily specialize in breakfast food, and have over 200 different omelettes both ordinary and extraordinary. Despite how amazingly great the food is and the overwhelming amount of omelettes on their menu, the branding and menu needs some serious cleanup and updating. I wanted to create something nostalgic and with less clutter than their old logo.

Below is the menu designs with the new logo I created, as well as the logo applied to the various deliverables I created (Photographs coming soon). One menu is all of the omelettes, the other for "everything else."

Curial is designed for smaller sizes and large blocks of text, so it would benefit designers working on a book or publication in situations with lots of paragraphs. It was created with strokes using a b-style pen nib and has an overall look of if courier met comic sans to make a great body text typeface.

Currently, Curial is a work in progress and will be available for purchase and download soon.

"How to Pack a Suitcase" is a design for a shirt folding board that will fit easily inside a suitcase to instruct users on how to properly pack a suitcase for airline travel. It will allow travelers to pack all of their belongings in a single bag with ease, while also teaching them about TSA regulations for carry ons and liquids.

Full size of project is 24" x 27"

It's mind-blowing how much food is wasted nationwide (and globally) especially on a consumer level. I designed two magazine spreads that show the staggering statistics in an interesting way that compares how much food we buy with how much food we waste. I also created my own pictograms and graphs to further enhance the design. A second format for the design that could be used in other applications, shown at the bottom of this page.

Featured on SCAD Portfolios in November 2012.

Annual Report, Publication

Buffalo Wild Wings has a unique brand identity and a well-designed menu, website, and mobile app. However, when looking at the most recent annual report they put out, there was no design in it whatsoever - not even a cover. I turned what is normally just a boring document for stockholders and prospective investors into a more exciting document that accurately reflects the personality of the brand and restaurant.

All information contained in the report came from their website, investor relations pages, and their 2010 10-K form.
